A special candy is a name for a candy in Candy Crush Saga that will have powerful effects once matched by a switch or an effect. Upon activation, its power will destroy more candies and yield a much greater score than a simple match of three. Furthermore, they can also be switched when just 2 special candies are side-by-side; this match, called a combo will produce a very powerful effect much stronger than if they are activated separately.
Three forms of special candy can be formed by making a match of four or more candies. Others are present only if the board provides them from the starting configuration or element spawn notes. All special candies can further be formed by applying boosters before or during gameplay.

List of special candies[]
Below is a list of special candies players can create and the combinations they can make in Candy Crush Saga.
Name | Appearance | Effect | Formation | Example |
---|---|---|---|---|
Striped Candy |
Horizontal or vertical white stripes on a regular candy | Clears an entire row or column, depending on the direction of the stripes. |
Exactly 4 candies in a line. The most common special candy, often created accidentally through cascades Direction is based on the direction of your last swipe. |
|
Wrapped Candy |
A regular candy in a same-coloured square wrapper | Clears the surrounding 8 candies, activates twice. Unlike the striped candy, it can destroy liquorice swirls and liquorice shells without getting absorbed. | Intersecting matches up to 4 a line.
5 candies in a T or L shape is the simplest case. If there is 4 candies in a line in these matches, a Wrapped Candy is produced. It has higher precedence than a Striped candy. |
|
Colour Bomb |
Chocolate ball coated with sprinkles | When switched with a regular candy, it will clear all candies of that colour from the board. | 5 or more in a row.
Matching will ignore possible intersections. |
|
Jelly Fish |
A candy fish. Colours vary | Removes one layer from three random priority targets (usually jellies), going under blockers if necessary. |
Cannot be formed outside of a specific event. May appear as board layout. Can only spawn from specific candy cannons, or when the booster is used. |
|
Coconut Wheel |
Pink Coconut Wheel with a liquorice center | When switched with a regular candy, continues on in that direction, clearing all candies from its path. Also converts the first 3 candies to Striped Candies, and activate them. |
Cannot be formed. May appear as board layout. Can only spawn when the booster is used on ingredients levels. |
Combinations[]
Candies | Effect |
---|---|
This does not hold any extra powers for a combination, effectively making it the weakest combination and merely a freely switching pair (unless used against a Bobber).
Both candies will detonate, with one always being horizontal and the other always being vertical, like a cross. If you select a striped candy, then swap it with a striped candy next to it, centre of the cross will be the 2nd candy. | |
Becomes a giant candy that clears a 3×3 area left and right, and then up and down. (Similar to striped+striped but in a 3×3 area)
Web description: Matching a Wrapped Candy and a Striped Candy will create one giant super candy which clears multiple rows both horizontally and vertically | |
Transforms all candies of the colour of the striped candy to striped candies, alternating between horizontal and vertical in reading order. Then they will go off from top to bottom. On mobile, the striped candy itself isn't detonated and simply disappears instead. | |
Creates three striped fish which lands on random spaces convert any eaten candy (e.g. with no blockers) into striped candies that then activate. | |
| |
A mass explosion is created that clears a 6×5 rectangle surrounding the two candies. The individual wrapped candies after effect explosion will explode once again, clearing each a 5×5 square. | |
Past version: The colour bomb destroys all candies of the wrapped candy's colour, then picks a second, random (or most prevalent) colour on the board. Usually rewards many points.
Current version (as of Taffy Treetops): Transforms all candies of the colour of the wrapped candy to wrapped candies. Then they will go off from top to bottom. | |
Creates three wrapped jelly fish which convert any eaten candy into wrapped candies and activates them. | |
Causes the coconut wheel to follow the full path of the row/column it is on, turning each candy it touches to wrapped candies and activates them. | |
Clears the entire board of candies and then each explodes, though not affecting anymore candy surrounding it. This formerly didn't affect chocolate or frosting. Now it affects to all blockers and can hit liquorice shells. | |
| |
Not a match. For some unknown reasons, even if they are special candies, they cannot be combined. | |
Not a match. Since having a Jelly Fish and a Coconut Wheel side-by-side are rare, they cannot be combined. | |
Colour Bomb is activated first, activating normally. Then, the coconut wheel converts a whole row/column of candies into Striped Candy and activates them. This effect is the same with a Coconut Wheel to Coconut Wheel combination but with only one whole row instead of two whole rows created. | |
Both coconut wheels are treated as if a coconut wheel + colour bomb combination.
Converts the entire row or column to striped candies, then does it again after they have all been activated. The striped candy always faces the opposite way that the coconut wheels went (horizontally vs. vertically). This is similar to combining a coconut wheel and a colour bomb, but it does it twice and only affects candies. |
Trivia[]
- If you create another special candies during having a striped candy or more, they will be destroyed immediately by striped candy.
- Striped candy + wrapped candy combination and colour bomb + colour bomb combination appear in the achievement system in my profile.
- Wrapped candy + colour bomb combination is the only one to ever get changed, if the beta version of wrapped candy + wrapped candy found in Candy Crush is not counted.
- For a limited time, Jelly Fish can also be formed. In this case, four candies must be matched in a square pattern. This pattern will always yield a Candy Fish in the sequel games.
- This combination is the same as one in Candy Crush Soda Saga and Candy Crush Jelly Saga.
- Special candy combinations make up the order numbers 10 to 15:
- Striped + striped: 10
- Striped + wrapped: 11
- Striped + colour bomb: 12
- Colour bomb + colour bomb: 13
- Wrapped + colour bomb: 14
- Wrapped + wrapped: 15
- Combination orders are nowadays very rare.
- When they were first introduced, in level 130, they occurred regularly. In fact, it occurs before the first level requiring just the activation of special candies, in this case level 131.
- As of the release of Level 10000, there are only
- 2 levels requiring striped+striped
- 2 levels requiring striped+wrapped
- 2 levels requiring striped+color bomb
- Only one requiring wrapped+wrapped
- None requiring wrapped+color bomb
- 4 requiring color bomb+color bomb, all of them assisted via a pair of Liquorice Shell or Lucky Candies.
- Later elements based around special candies or having special candies inside them (i.e. candy cannons, bonbon blitz, wonderful wrappers) only include the quartet of striped candy, wrapped candy, colour bomb, jelly fish. Coconut wheels and UFOs are excluded from appearing in cannons, bonbon blitz, and wonderful wrappers (despite being able to appear in any level type). This also extends to candy orders.
