Key art candies

Candies are the main item in Candy Crush Saga. Candies come in six colours; match at least three of them with the same colour in a line to clear them for points. There are special candies, which are created by forming special configurations, and other special candies that appear on later levels but can't be created. Each one has its effect.

Clearing candies in certain positions will also clear blockers, so you can open up the board and make gameplay easier.

Special candies[]

Special Candy Image Info
Striped Candy
Red striped candy HQ

A vertically striped red candy

  • Appearance: Horizontal or vertical white stripes on a regular candy.
  • Effect: Clears an entire row or column, depending on the direction of the stripes.
  • Formation: Exactly 4 regular candies in a row. The most common special candy, often created accidentally through cascades. This is the easiest Special Candy to make.
    • If the striped candy results from a horizontal move, the stripes will be horizontal, if it results from a vertical move, they will be vertical, and the result is random during larger cascades.
    • If created directly through a match, the striped candy will appear at the location of the candy you switched and matched, and will have the same direction as the direction of the switch. If striped candies are formed in subsequent cascades, they will replace any one of the matched candies that form the special candy.
  • Vertical striped candies may be useful in ingredient levels if they are in the same column as an ingredient.
Wrapped Candy
  • Appearance: A regular candy in a same-coloured rectangular wrapper.
  • Effect: Clears the surrounding 8 candies, activates twice.
  • Formation: 5 or 6 regular candies in a T, L, or + shape (or in some cases, any intersecting matches with none being a match of five or more). Only comes out if the formation cannot create a Colour Bomb.
    • If created directly through a match, the wrapped candy will replace the matched candy you switched. If created through cascades, the wrapped candy will replace any one of the candies being cleared to form the special candy.
Colour Bomb
Colour Bomb new

A Colour Bomb

  • Appearance: A chocolate ball with sprinkles on it. Known as "freckles".
  • Effect:
    • When switched with a regular candy, it will clear all candies of that colour from the board.
    • When switched with a striped candy it will turn all candies of that colour into striped candies and immediately clear each line according to the striped candy's direction.
    • Old: When switched with a wrapped candy, it will remove all candies of that colour from the board. Once the board settles, it will then remove all candies of another colour from the board.
    • New: When switched with a wrapped candy, it will turn all candies of that colour into wrapped candies. Then they all activate.
    • When switched with another colour bomb, it will clear all candy on the board.
    • When blown up by a special candy or falling candies, it will remove all candies of one colour.
  • Formation: 5 or more in a row. This will always come out even if a single formation meets the condition of other special candies.
    • If created through a match directly, the Colour Bomb will appear at the spot of the switched candy being matched. This means only the central candy of the five cleared candies will be replaced with a Colour Bomb. If created during cascades, it will replace any one of the candies being cleared to form the special candy.
Jelly Fish
Jelly fish

A blue Jelly Fish candy

  • Appearance: A candy fish. Colours vary.
  • Effect: When matched etc., creates 3 Jelly Fish that target and eat one random candy each (preferring squares with jelly), activating special candies if they are targeted.
  • Formation: Can only be used as a booster in Jelly Levels. It may appear on the start screen in later levels, or appear in Sugar Crush of Jelly levels, where each move that you have left becomes 3 Fish. Starting in Level 2406, they can come out from bobbers.
Coconut Wheel
CoconutWheel

A Coconut Wheel

  • Appearance: Pink coconut Wheel with a liquorice centre.
  • Effect: When switched with a regular candy, it continues in that direction, clearing the first candy and converting the first 3 candies to Striped Candies. Once the Roll has finished, the Striped Candies will activate.
  • Formation: Can only be used as a booster in Ingredients Levels. It may appear on the start screen or Mystery Candies (before their removal) in later levels.
Lucky Candy
Lucky Candy Green

A green Lucky Candy

  • Appearance: A circle candy with a tick in Candy Order levels.
  • Effect: When matched, they turn into a candy which accords to the orders.
  • Formation: Can only be used as a booster in Candy Order Levels. It may appear on the start screen or even spawn naturally or in Candy Cannons in later levels.

Trivia[]

  • The default colour order is blue, green, orange, purple, red, and yellow. As such, green and blue candies were the only candies to never be left out of a level. The colours are numbered 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, respectively.
    • Green candies are the only candies to have never been left out throughout the game. However, 3455 was a 1-coloured candy order level, featuring only blue candies. Since it caused infinite cascades due to lack of liquorice swirls after the level, it was changed to a 2-colour level.
    • Blue candies also appear in every level. However, on HTML5, they were left out in 289 before they unified the candy colour formation with Flash.
    • As two and one colour levels didn't exist at that time, red candies used to appear in every level in old HTML5. Yellow candies didn't appear in ordinary 3-colour levels such as 31 and 587, and on some cases, a 5-colour level like level 146, and a 4-colour level like level 289.
  • All 5 colour levels exclude yellow candies. Before, the old HTML5 version usually excluded purple candies instead, except on special cases.
  • All 4 colour levels exclude yellow and red candies. Before, the old HTML5 version usually excluded purple and orange candies instead. An exception is old 615, whose colour pattern was red, green, blue and purple.
  • Candies can sometimes cause sliding. This can be observed in level 1641, where you can see the number 111 (this refers to Episode 111). After that, the player gets at least 5000 points without any moves being made.
  • Later levels have less than four candy colours. Level 2595 is the first level with just two colours, the minimum possible (except for a few promotional levels). 3455 featured only one colour, but was changed to featuring two colours.
    • One of the two-colour levels even has a "nearly impossible" difficulty, but not one is lower than "hard".
    • Currently, jelly drop down mixed level along with rainbow rapids mixed levels is the only level type to have no two-colour levels.
  • In Glazed Grove, Tiffi feeds Freddie up with some red candies.
  • A blue candy appears in Marmalade Meadow and is responsible for clogging Boomer's harvesting equipment.
  • The face of the sunflower in the after story of the 56th episode, Candy Calaboose is replaced by a purple candy. (After the character of this episode has been changed to Benny instead of Mr. Raccoon)
  • Six-coloured levels are absent in the later episodes. A few later levels used to have six-colours but were nerfed (such as level 3059). As of March 2019, nearly all six-coloured levels have been nerfed to five colours. Only nine six coloured levels remain in the game. The last six coloured level that was ever released is level 3873, which was later nerfed to 5 colours. However, this trend was broken on March 2021.
    • Currently, the last standard six-coloured level is the aforementioned level 9084.
    • In later levels, yellow candies can only appear from lucky candies as part of order, or at the start of certain levels in a fixed pattern, but they don't respawn.
    • Yellow candies are almost always used for non-spawning colour candies. In levels with two non-spawning candy colours, red and yellow are usually the non-spawning colours. In levels with three non-spawning colours, purple is usually the third non-spawning colour.
  • For a long time, there were no levels with four non-spawning colours. However, it was broken with the release of level 9446, the first 2.6 coloured level.
  • Levels that are described as "x"-coloured levels are levels where "x" candies spawn normally (where "x" is the number of candy colours). Non-spawning colours can appear in later levels, due to coming out of lucky candies because they are required for the order or because they appear as part of a fixed layout but don't respawn.
    • An "x.y"-coloured level is a level where "x" is the number of colours that spawn naturally, and "y" is the maximum number of colours that can appear on the board, with "y" always being greater than "x". For example, a 5.6 coloured level has five colours spawning naturally, and a sixth colour that can appear on the board (either as part of a fixed layout, or if a lucky candy containing the sixth colour is opened).
  • Candies, in general, have the tilemap code 002. Fixed candy colours make up the numbers 055 to 060 in the tilemap code.
    • Red: 055
    • Yellow: 056
    • Blue: 057
    • Green: 058
    • Orange: 059
    • Purple: 060
  • Coloured candies are chronologically the first elements to be required for candy orders. Each colour has a separate order number, according to the files.
    • Red: 1
    • Blue: 2
    • Yellow: 3
    • Orange: 4
    • Purple: 5
    • Green: 6
  • Coloured candies are required to unlock order locks from level 8049. As of level 8815, any colour can be required to unlock order locks.
  • Occasionally, candies may have a changed design to celebrate a holiday.
    • During Halloween 2020, orange candies were temporarily changed to resemble pumpkins.
    • During February 2021, in celebration of Valentine's Day, purple candies are changed to resemble hearts.
    • During April 2021, blue candies are changed to mimic Easter eggs to celebrate Easter.
    • During June 2021's Puzzle Pursuit event, green candies are changed to look like puzzle pieces.
    • During the premiere of Space Jam: A New Legacy, orange candies are changed to look like basketballs.
  • As of level 9000 (level 554 unofficially due to a redesign), levels can have custom colour schemes, meaning that any colour can appear in any level, regardless of how many colours spawn. In these levels, the default colour order doesn't apply. For example, level 9000 is a four-coloured level with yellow candies instead of blue candies, meaning that yellow candies can spawn naturally in later levels.
  • Specific coloured candies are able to spawn from candy cannons from level 9441 onwards.
  • In the new version, during Sugar Crush, every level has six colours regardless of how many colours of each candy normally has.
  • Blue candies were the most matched candies of 2023.[1]
